Hi Aris, Welcome to this week's edition of Smart Investing. The latest earnings season for companies listed on the ASX has just ended and it was clear the current economic conditions have taken their toll, with more results misses than beats. In our lead article this week, Vanguard's Senior Personal Finance Writer, Tony Kaye, wraps up the results for the 30 June reporting period and joins the dots with last week's Australian GDP data, which showed that domestic economic growth has slowed to a crawl. Of course, for many investors, company reporting season is very much about dividend payouts. These are aggregated and paid out to ETF investors as income distributions. While receiving regular distributions can be important to fund living expenses, our second article explains why reinvesting income distributions back into an ETF can significantly increase capital growth and income returns over the long term. Lastly, watch our video with senior Vanguard executive, Carole Okigbo, to hear her personal investing story. It all started when she was a teenager after she watched an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show. Can you help? We are looking for media case studies of people who had planned to retire early, but have had to keep working for financial reasons, and also for people who were forced to retire earlier than they had intended to. If you are happy to share your experience in the media, please contact us by sending an email to corpcommsaustralia@vanguard.com. |
