Hi Aris, Welcome to this week's edition of Smart Investing. We've just crossed into June and millions of Australians with mortgages are likely to get a cash boost this month, thanks to the Reserve Bank's recent official interest rate cut. Aside from keeping the extra cash, mortgage holders have the choice of keeping their repayments the same, to help pay down their loan sooner. Or, another option could be to invest the same amount of money into an index-tracking shares fund. In our lead article this week we crunch the numbers on both options, and you may be very surprised by the potential results over the term of a 25-year mortgage. Meanwhile, equity and fixed income markets took less than a month to recover after U.S. tariff announcements in early April sent them reeling. Kevin Khang, Vanguard Senior International Economist, explains in our second article that this has given investors a valuable opportunity to reexamine their relationship with risk. Lastly, when it comes to investing, markets volatility is largely unpredictable. But there is one thing you can control, and ultimately it is one of the biggest factors that will determine the size of your investment returns over the long term.
