How to track market volatility. Investors back bond ETFs. August economic and markets update | View this email online | | | Welcome to this week's edition of Smart Investing.
Volatility is a fact of life for share market investors, and unfortunately no one really knows what's around the corner for markets. But there are ways to track share market volatility based on what some investors think may happen soon.
In this week's lead article we explore four key volatility indexes that are widely used by specialist market traders and followed by many investors. In terms of how they operate, they provide a real-time glimpse into the future based on market trades executed now.
Meanwhile, Australia's exchange traded funds (ETFs) sector recorded another surge during July, with total investor assets under management rising to almost $150 billion. It was another big month for ETFs as investors continued to direct capital into products that invest in bond issues, particularly Australian fixed income securities.
Our second article covers the July data from the Australian Securities Exchange and looks at the key investment trends underway.
Lastly, our latest investment and economic update shows that central banks around the world are continuing to battle inflation levels and further interest rate rises are likely to bring it under control.
Read our region-by-region economic outlooks as well as our financial forecasts for Australian and international equities and bonds.
