Robin Bowerman, head of market strategy at Vanguard, says commercial property ETFs are a valid alternative for investors who have a lot of wealth tied up in the residential sector. "Residential property has been a very good asset class for a lot of investors but it's very illiquid," Bowerman says. "It's really hard when you need to buy a new car or take an overseas holiday to sell the bathroom. That's where ETFs come into their own because you can buy or sell just like you do with shares."
