The head of retail business at global investment powerhouse Vanguard, Balaji Gopal, says Australian SMSF investors have tended to have a strong home bias but in the past year they have woken up to the fact they need to diversify away from this bias. Gopal says the Australian market makes up about 1.5 per cent to 2 per cent of the world's total market capitalisation, so it makes sense to diversify to access a broader pool of securities and asset classes globally.
