Hi Aris, Welcome to this week's edition of Smart Investing. There’s an old saying in investing: “It’s time in the market, not timing the market.” Over the 25 years from April 2000 to May 2025, the S&P/ASX 300 Index delivered an average annual return of 8.2%, including reinvested dividends. However, new analysis from Vanguard reveals that if you missed just the best 30 trading days, that return would have dropped to only 2.8% per year — a reduction of nearly two-thirds. This highlights the risks of trying to time the market, especially since many of the best days occurred during major market downturns. As the end of the financial year approaches, it's a great time to consider boosting your super. Vanguard’s research shows that small, consistent contributions can significantly grow your retirement savings — and potentially reduce your tax bill. Meanwhile, the 2025 Vanguard/Investment Trends Self-Managed Super Fund (SMSF) Report found that 51% of SMSFs — around 315,000 funds — now hold one or more ETF products, up from 265,000 in 2024. | |
